C&R Mechanical played a vital role in the design and construction of the BJC Information Services New Primary Data Center. This new facility is located along Highway 40 in O’Fallon, Missouri and is estimated to be completed during the first quarter of 2010. It is a LEED certified project.
Many features of the mechanical systems, installed as part of this design-assist effort, achieve a Tier 3 rating per the ANSI/TIA-942-2005 standard. The mechanical support systems are located in a single mechanical room, where an N+1 configuration is employed for the chillers and the chilled/condenser water pumps. An N+1 cooling tower arrangement was installed in an adjacent mechanical yard. A raised floor system, pressurized by six (6) Computer Room AC Units (6 CRAC units installed day 1, 18 CRAC units ultimate), was installed to serve the Data Center floor. In addition, two (2) CRAC units were installed in each of the BDF/DEMARC and UPS Rooms, for a total of fourteen (14) CRAC units day 1..
Initial equipment installation includes: Two (2) 375 Ton cross-flow cooling towers, one (1) 417 ton (day 1) plate and frame heat exchanger, two (2) 375 ton screw chillers with factory mounted variable frequency drives, four (4) vertical in-line water circulation pumps, one (1) 13,500 CFM floor mounted, chilled water air handling unit for the main building, two (2) 12,000 gallon fiberglass double-wall underground fuel oil storage tanks, two (2) 20,000 gallon fiberglass single-wall underground storage tanks for make-up water, one (1) 15,000 gallon steel chilled water buffer/storage tank, one (1) 3000 CFM energy recovery ventilator to serve the general building exhaust, and thirty-nine (39) Miami-Dade County approved “Hurricane/Tornado” tested louvers. Space and provisions have been allotted for one (1) future 375 ton chiller, one (1) 375 ton future cooling tower, two (2) future water circulation pumps, and additional plates to bring the future capacity of the heat exchanger up to 625 tons. Additional features include:
- Partial dual-path chilled water distribution piping below the Data Center raised floor
- Valved/capped water piping connections for system extension to accommodate future renovations/additions
- Extensive live-cycle cost analysis to achieve LEED energy efficiency objectives
