C&R Project: Centene IT Renaissance Data Center
C&R Services:
- Building Type: Data Center
- Project Type: HVAC, Design & Build
Project Description:
C&R Mechanical played a vital role in the coordination and construction of the new Centene Data Center. This new facility is located along Highway 40 in O’Fallon, Missouri. The project was completed in the second quarter of 2011. It is a LEED certified project.
Many features of the mechanical systems achieve a Tier 3 rating per the ANSI/TIA-942-2005 standard. The mechanical support systems are located in a single mechanical room and adjacent mechanical yard, where an N+1 configuration is employed for the building’s main mechanical systems. For redundancy, and to eliminate the building’s dependence on city water, separate water-cooled and air-cooled systems were installed, with future expansion capabilities to allow for optimal performance and back-up. A raised floor system, currently pressurized by three (3) chilled water air handling units (with space for three (3) future), was installed to serve the Data Center floor as the primary cooling source.
Initial equipment installation includes: One (1) 200 Ton cooling tower, one (1) 200 ton (day 1) plate and frame heat exchanger, one (1) 200 ton screw chiller, four (4) vertical in-line water circulation pumps, multiple chilled water fan coils, three (3) 3,000 gallon steel chilled water storage/buffer tanks for extra chilled water capacity. Space and provisions have been allotted for two (2) future 200 ton chillers, two (2) 200 ton future cooling towers, two (2) future water circulation pumps, and additional plates to bring the future capacity of the heat exchanger up to 600 tons.
